customstaxesguide

When importing a motorcycle to Mongolia, customs duties represent a significant portion of the total cost. In this article, we break down all applicable taxes and fees.

Types of Customs Duties

Import Duty

A 5% import duty is levied on the declared value of the motorcycle. The value includes the motorcycle price, shipping, and insurance (CIF value).

Value Added Tax (VAT)

A 10% VAT is applied to the CIF value plus import duty.

Excise Tax

Motorcycles with engine displacement over 250cc are subject to an additional 10% excise tax.

Example Calculation

$10,000 motorcycle + $2,000 shipping = $12,000 CIF value:

  • Import duty: $12,000 × 5% = $600
  • Excise tax: $12,000 × 10% = $1,200
  • VAT: ($12,000 + $600 + $1,200) × 10% = $1,380
  • - Total duties: $3,180
